Atlantica Miramare Beach Hotel Review

Is the Atlantica Miramare Worth Booking? Yes, if the beach is the reason you are coming. The rooms are dated, but you walk straight out onto the sand.

Our rating: 4 out of 5. The location, the pool area and a genuinely good breakfast do a great deal of heavy lifting, and it is one of the few hotels in Cyprus that takes proper care of its resident cats.

Getting there: Larnaca Airport is under an hour away. Book a transfer with KiwiTaxi (affiliate link), compare hire cars on Auto Europe (affiliate link), or browse day trips on Klook (affiliate link).

Is the Atlantica Miramare Worth Visiting?

Yes, if the beach is the reason you are coming to Cyprus. Very few four star hotels in the Limassol area put you this close to the water. You walk out of the hotel and you are on the sand, with no road to cross, no shuttle bus and no fight for a sunbed on a public strip.

If what you want is a modern room with the latest fit out, look elsewhere or be prepared to pay considerably more. The rooms are clean and nothing is broken, but they belong to an older generation of Cypriot resort hotels. That is the trade you are making here: an excellent position and good facilities in exchange for rooms that could use a refresh. For most people on a beach holiday, that trade is worth it. I would stay here again for the location alone.

Atlantica Miramare at a Glance

  • Best for: beach holidays, families, couples on a sensible budget and animal lovers.
  • Best part: the beachfront, then the pool area and breakfast.
  • Weakest part: dated rooms.
  • Tip: pay the difference for a sea view room.

Where Is the Hotel?

The hotel is on Amerikanas Street in Potamos Germasogeias, part of the long tourist strip that runs east from Limassol along the coast. This is the stretch most visitors to Limassol actually stay on, lined with hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants, and the Atlantica sits right in the middle of it.

Dasoudi Beach, one of the most popular public beaches in Limassol, is around a five minute walk away along the seafront. The centre of Limassol, with the old town, the castle and the marina, is roughly five kilometres to the west. That is too far to walk comfortably in summer, but buses run along the coast road and taxis are easy to find, so for most of a stay you genuinely do not need a car.

Larnaca Airport is a little under an hour by car. If you are planning to explore the island properly, the Troodos villages and Paphos are both manageable day trips from here, and our guide to where to stay in Cyprus explains how Limassol compares with the other regions as a base, while our Limassol guide covers the city. How Good Are the Beach and Pool?

This is the heart of the hotel and the main reason to book it. The beachfront is the best thing about the property. The sea is right there, the sand is a few steps from the gardens, and the whole stay can be built around the beach rather than around getting to one.

That matters more than people tend to realise when they book. A lot of hotels in Cyprus describe themselves as beachfront when there is actually a road, a promenade or a car park between you and the water. Here there is not, and on a hot August afternoon the difference between stepping onto the sand and walking fifteen minutes to reach it is enormous.

The pool area is really nice. It is well kept, laid out among gardens and palm trees, and a pleasant place to spend an afternoon when you have had enough sun on the beach. According to the hotel, there are two outdoor pools, one of them reserved for adults, plus a children’s pool and an indoor pool that is heated in winter. The adults only pool is worth knowing about if you are travelling as a couple in school holidays, when family hotels on this coast get busy.

What About the Cats?

I want to give this its own section, because most reviews skip over it entirely. This hotel looks after its resident cats properly. They are fed, they are cared for, and the staff clearly treat them as part of the place rather than a nuisance to be shooed off the terrace.

Anyone who has spent time in Cyprus knows how many cats live around hotels, tavernas and beaches, and how differently they get treated from one property to the next. If you love cats the way I do, seeing them well looked after adds a genuine warmth to the stay that you do not get at most resorts. It is a small thing on paper, but it says something about the culture of the hotel. Places that care about the small things usually care about their guests too.

Are the Rooms Any Good?

The rooms are where the hotel shows its age, and there is no point pretending otherwise. Nothing is broken and nothing is dirty, but the furniture, the bathrooms and the overall finish feel a step behind the newer properties on the island. The building itself goes back to the late 1960s, which makes it one of the older resort hotels on this stretch of coast, and in places you can feel it.

Compare it with somewhere like Amara and the gap is obvious, although Amara also costs several times as much. It is not a dealbreaker. You will sleep well, the air conditioning works, rooms open onto a balcony, and you will spend very little of your holiday indoors anyway. Just do not arrive expecting a modern design hotel.

If you are booking, it is worth paying the difference for a sea view room. The hotel offers both sea and inland views, and on a property whose whole appeal is the beachfront, waking up to the sea makes the dated decor much easier to forgive.

Is Breakfast Worth Getting Up For?

Yes, breakfast is genuinely good. There is a solid spread, the food is fresh, and there is enough variety to keep you happy for a week without repeating yourself too much. At a lot of large resort hotels breakfast is where corners get cut first, with tired pastries and eggs that have been sitting under a lamp for an hour. That was not the case here, and I have no complaints.

The hotel runs several restaurants and bars, including a main buffet restaurant and a pool bar, and it can be booked on bed and breakfast or half board. Our advice would be to go for bed and breakfast and eat out in the evenings. You are on one of the busiest restaurant strips in Cyprus, and some of the best food in Limassol is a short taxi ride away.

Where Should You Eat Near the Atlantica Miramare?

BEGE, which may well serve the best fish on the island, is about a fifteen minute drive east, and Pyxida Limassol is the more relaxed fish tavern on the marina. For meze, Meze Taverna in the old town is the classic, and Fat Fish is the big portion, good value option by the water. Our guide to the best restaurants in Cyprus has the full ranking. Taxis are easy to find on the strip, and a pre-booked driver from KiwiTaxi (affiliate link) is useful for the longer trips.

What Are the Spa and Facilities Like?

The hotel has its own spa and wellness centre, along with a tennis court, a children’s playground and an entertainment programme in season. For a four star hotel at this price, the facilities list is generous, and families in particular will find enough on site to keep children busy between beach sessions.

If spa time is a priority rather than an extra, it is worth reading our guide to spa hotels in Cyprus. It covers the properties where the spa is the main event.

Who Is It For?

  • Beach holidays: If your ideal day is sea in the morning, pool in the afternoon and dinner out in the evening, this hotel fits that rhythm almost perfectly.
  • Families: Direct beach access, a children’s pool, a playground and a busy strip on the doorstep make it an easy choice with children.
  • Couples on a sensible budget: The adults only pool helps, and the money you save compared with a five star can go on eating well in Limassol.
  • Animal lovers: It sounds like a strange reason to choose a hotel, but if you notice how animals are treated, you will notice it here for the right reasons.

Who Should Look Elsewhere?

  • Room focused guests: If the room itself is a big part of the experience for you, this is not the right hotel.
  • Anyone after peace and quiet: Potamos Germasogeias is lively, especially in summer, and while that is part of its appeal for many people, it will not suit someone who wants empty beaches and silence. For that, our guide to choosing where to stay in Cyprus points to calmer parts of the island.

How Does It Compare With Other Hotels?

Against the five star hotels further east along Amathus Avenue, the Atlantica Miramare is the value choice. Amara is in another league for design and dining, and prices to match. St Raphael carries a higher star rating, but on our most recent stay it delivered far less than the Atlantica does, which is a good reminder that stars and experience are not the same thing. The GrandResort is the better value of the five star beachfront options.

Among four star hotels on the Limassol strip, few can match this combination of direct beach access, a good pool area and a strong breakfast. The rooms are the only thing holding it back.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Atlantica Miramare on the Beach?

Yes. The hotel sits directly on the beach, with no road between the grounds and the sand. Dasoudi Beach is about five minutes’ walk along the seafront.

How Far Is It From Limassol Centre?

Roughly five kilometres. Buses run along the coast road and taxis are plentiful, so a car is not essential unless you plan to explore the rest of the island.

Is It Good for Families?

Yes. There is a children’s pool, a playground and seasonal entertainment, and the beach is right outside.

Is There an Adults Only Pool?

According to the hotel, one of the two outdoor pools is reserved for adults. The other pool and the children’s pool are open to everyone.

Are the Rooms Modern?

No. They are clean and comfortable but dated. A sea view room is worth the extra.

Should I Book Half Board?

Breakfast is good, but with so many restaurants nearby we would book bed and breakfast and eat out in the evening.

Where Is the Best Place to Eat Near the Hotel?

BEGE for fish, about fifteen minutes east, and Meze Taverna for meze. See the best restaurants in Cyprus.

How Do I Get From the Airport to the Hotel?

Book a private transfer with KiwiTaxi (affiliate link), or compare hire cars on Auto Europe (affiliate link) if you want to explore the island. Sort mobile data before you land with an Airalo (affiliate link) eSIM.

Final Verdict

The rooms could use an update, and that is what keeps this from being a top score. But the location does a lot of heavy lifting: direct beach access, the Limassol strip on your doorstep, a really nice pool area, a good breakfast and a hotel that genuinely takes care of its cats. It is an honest, well run beach hotel that knows what it is good at.
