NYX Hotel Limassol Review: Great Location, Inconsistent Rooms

Is NYX Hotel Limassol worth it? Yes for the location, with one big condition: do not book a single room. The hotel sits in the old town, a short walk from the Molos promenade, and it is not overpriced, but room quality varies, parking is awkward and the breakfast did not impress us the way it impresses many guests.

Book a double room, confirm your parking before you arrive and use the hotel for what it does best, which is putting you in the middle of Limassol. If you arrive in a busy hour, the arrival itself can be the hardest part of the stay.

Getting there: with parking this awkward, a pre-booked airport transfer from KiwiTaxi (affiliate link) is the easiest way in, and you can collect a hire car from Auto Europe (affiliate link) later if you need one. Day trips from Limassol are listed on Klook (affiliate link).

Is NYX Hotel Limassol Worth Staying At?

For most visitors, yes. We have stayed here a couple of times and we found it convenient and fairly priced, and the position is the strongest reason to book. If you are a tourist who wants to walk to the seafront, the old town and the marina, very few hotels in Limassol put you closer.

The catch is consistency. Some rooms are nice and some are really poor, and the hotel feels like it is trying to be a higher quality place than it quite is. Guests agree on the location and often disagree on everything else, which is why this hotel always gets mixed reactions.

NYX Hotel Limassol at a Glance

  • Good for: tourists who want to walk everywhere, short city stays and anyone who values location above everything else.
  • Less good for: solo travellers in a single room, drivers arriving at a busy hour and guests who want a beachfront resort.
  • Price: rates start from around 163 euro a night on the hotel’s own website, and we did not find it overpriced for what it offers.
  • What stood out: the location, the exterior finish and a rooftop bar with a sea view.
  • What let it down: the single rooms, the breakfast, the early closing rooftop bar and the parking.
  • Guest scores: around 8.9 out of 10 on Booking.com, so many guests rate it more highly than we do.

What Is NYX Hotel Limassol?

NYX Hotel Limassol is a 189 room hotel run by the Leonardo Hotels group, with a rooftop pool, a rooftop bar, a spa and several places to eat and drink on site. Room types run from the Design Single Star up through Design Double rooms, Superior rooms and the Heaven Suite, and the hotel lists city, partial sea and sea view options.

The look is modern and design led, with a good exterior finish that gives the building real presence on the street. Dogs up to 6 kg are welcome for an extra fee, which is worth knowing if you travel with a small pet.

Where Is NYX Hotel Limassol?

The hotel is on the corner of Anexartisias Street and Christodoulou Hadjipavlou Street in the old town of Limassol. It is a busy central position rather than a quiet resort setting, and that is exactly the point.

According to the hotel, these are the walking distances that matter:

  • Molos seafront park and promenade: about 100 metres.
  • Limassol Town Hall: about 350 metres.
  • Anexartisias shopping street: about 450 metres.
  • Medieval Castle: about 750 metres.
  • Limassol Marina and the Old Port: about 800 metres.

Larnaca Airport is about 54 km away, roughly 45 to 60 minutes by road, and Paphos Airport about 71 km, around an hour. Our Larnaca Airport review covers the arrival side, and our Limassol guide covers what to do once you are in town.

What Are the Rooms Like?

Inconsistent is the best word for them. The furniture is IKEA, but decent IKEA, and in a good room that is perfectly comfortable. The problem is that two guests can book the same hotel and have completely different stays depending on the room they are given.

Guest reviews on Trip.com describe the standard rooms as compact, and some say they are small for two people. One reviewer also noted that there is no balcony. If space matters to you, look at the room size for your category before you book.

Why Should You Avoid the Single Room?

This is the weak point. The hotel lists the Design Single Star at 17 to 19 square metres with one single bed measuring 100 by 200 cm, for one guest only. To us it felt like a child’s bed, and it is the sort of room you do not expect from a hotel that presents itself this well.

On one stay we checked in, went down to the lobby and told the hotel the room was absolutely terrible and that we could not sleep in it. The upgrade was not too expensive, so we took it. If the hotel is full and you are given a single room with a single bed, you will be unhappy.

If you are travelling alone, book a double room for single use instead. If you do end up in a single, ask at reception straight away what an upgrade costs, because it is easier to sort out on arrival than after the first night.

How Is the Breakfast?

In our experience it could be improved. That puts us at odds with many guests, because breakfast is one of the most praised parts of the hotel on both Booking.com and Trip.com, where reviewers describe it as generous and varied. Booking.com lists buffet, continental, American, Asian, vegan and gluten free options.

Breakfast is served at the ONAR Mediterranean Bistro from 07:00 to 10:30 on weekdays and from 07:00 to 11:00 at weekends. Whether it is included depends on your rate, so check before you book rather than assuming.

What Is the Rooftop Bar Like?

It is a nice idea with a sea view, and it is the part of the hotel most guests want to see. The rooftop bar is called Ethers Roof Bar, and the hotel lists it as open from 10:30 to 01:00 with snacks from 11:00 to 18:30 and a live DJ.

In our experience it seemed to close quite early and felt a little low quality compared with the setting. Trip.com reviewers say the rooftop pool area is scenic but often busy, and one guest could not find a seat, so go early if you want a good spot.

Is the Location Really That Good?

Yes, and it is the main reason to stay. Booking.com couples score the location 9.4 out of 10, and Trip.com guests rate it 8.8 for location. The Molos promenade is about 100 metres away, the old town and the castle are within walking distance, and the marina is under a kilometre.

For a tourist without a car this is hard to beat, because dinner, a walk by the sea and a drink are all close by.

Where Should You Eat Near NYX Hotel Limassol?

This is the best part of staying in the old town, because most of Limassol’s best tables are a short walk or a short taxi ride away. For a classic Cypriot meze, Meze Taverna is in the old town itself. Dionysus Mansion is an old villa with a courtyard and a pork tomahawk worth ordering. For fish, BEGE and Pyxida Limassol are both on the marina, and Fat Fish is the big portion, good value option by the water.

For a view with dinner, Taverna Agios Epiktitos sits above the city. Our ranked guide to the best restaurants in Cyprus has the full list, and a pre-booked driver from KiwiTaxi (affiliate link) covers the longer trips.

Is Parking a Problem at NYX Hotel Limassol?

It can be, and it is the biggest negative. The hotel is on a main road with no pull over space, so if you arrive in a busy hour, getting to the entrance with a car is very difficult. We found arriving super tough, and it is the one part of the stay that really depends on timing.

The hotel’s own page says parking is available nearby for a surcharge, while Booking.com lists a parking garage, valet parking and an EV charging point without giving a price. Ask the hotel in writing which option applies to your booking and what it costs, and try to arrive outside the rush hours.

If you are flying in, the easiest option is often to take a taxi or transfer to the hotel and collect a hire car later. Book a transfer with KiwiTaxi or GetTransfer (affiliate links), and compare cars with Auto Europe (affiliate link). Our guide to getting around Cyprus explains when you really need a car.

Is NYX Hotel Limassol Overpriced?

Not in our view. Rates start from around 163 euro a night on the hotel’s website, and for a central four star with a rooftop pool we thought that was fair, especially compared with the luxury beachfront resorts. Some guests on Trip.com disagree and feel the rooms are overpriced for what they offer.

The value depends heavily on the room you are given, which is why the single room matters so much. A good double at a fair rate is a sensible stay, and a cramped single is not.

Who Does NYX Hotel Limassol Suit?

  • Tourists on foot: the location puts the seafront, old town, castle and marina within a short walk.
  • Short city stays: a night or two in the centre makes the most of the position.
  • Couples: a double room and a rooftop drink make a good base for a weekend.
  • Small dog owners: dogs up to 6 kg are welcome for a fee.

Where Should You Stay Instead?

If you want a beach on the doorstep, easy arrival by car or a resort pool, look at the beachfront options instead. Our reviews of Amara, Parklane, The GrandResort and St Raphael cover the resorts along the coast.

Solo travellers who cannot get a double room should also think twice, and so should anyone who is driving in and does not want to deal with city centre parking. For help choosing a base across the island, see our guide to where to stay in Cyprus.

Tips for Your Stay

  • Avoid the single room: book a double for single use, or ask about an upgrade on arrival.
  • Sort parking first: ask the hotel which parking applies to your booking and what it costs.
  • Arrive outside rush hour: there is no pull over space on the main road outside.
  • Check your breakfast rate: make sure it is included before you book.
  • Go early to the rooftop: seats are limited and the bar seemed to close early to us.
