Prime Steakhouse Limassol Review: Worth Eating in a Casino?

A genuinely serious steakhouse inside the City of Dreams Mediterranean resort in Limassol, built around excellent beef, properly considered sides and service that does not slip. Most people overlook it because of where it sits, which is their loss.

Is It Worth Visiting?

Yes, and the casino location should not put you off. I have eaten here more times than I can count, which tells you most of what you need to know. This is not somewhere you visit once for the novelty of eating inside a casino resort and then forget. It is somewhere you return to because the food is consistently excellent and the standards never drop.

The single most impressive thing about Prime is consistency. Limassol has no shortage of restaurants that serve a superb steak once and then struggle to repeat it. Prime does not have that problem, and in this city that is rarer than it should be.

Our rating: 4.5 out of 5

Eating Inside a Casino Without Feeling Like You Are

The question I get asked every time I recommend this place is whether it feels like a casino restaurant. The honest answer is no. Once you are seated, the casino disappears entirely. There is no noise bleed, no sense of being next to a gaming floor and no feeling that the restaurant is secondary to the venue around it.

The lighting, the layout and the general atmosphere are calm and refined enough that it could pass for a standalone fine dining room anywhere in Europe. If anything it reads as a destination restaurant that happens to be attached to a casino rather than the reverse.

Quality Over Gimmicks

The reason Prime stands out is straightforward. They take steak seriously. There is no unnecessary theatre, no trolley wheeled out to distract you, and no attempt to disguise average cuts behind heavy sauces and elaborate plating. The attention sits on the quality of the meat, how it is cooked and how it reaches the table.

The prime cuts arrive exactly as ordered. Medium rare means medium rare rather than the kitchen’s loose interpretation of it, which is more than can be said for a good number of steakhouses in Cyprus. The char is right, the seasoning is restrained and the beef is allowed to do the work.

The Buffalo Steak

My long standing favourite here is the buffalo steak. When it is on, it is exceptional: lean but deeply flavoured, cooked beautifully and different enough from standard beef to feel like an occasion. For reasons I have never fully understood it has not always been available, which is a genuine frustration given how well the kitchen handles it. It is the sort of steak that stays with you, and I keep hoping it returns permanently.

Sides and Sauces That Are Not an Afterthought

What lifts Prime above being merely another good steakhouse is the care given to everything around the steak. Too many restaurants get the beef right and then treat sides as filler. Not here.

The sauteed mushrooms deserve a mention on their own. Earthy, rich and properly cooked, they are the side you end up ordering every visit without deliberating. They work perfectly against red meat and manage to feel indulgent without weighing the plate down.

Then there is the Sarawak pepper sauce. I am not someone who drowns a steak, but this is one of the best pepper sauces I have had anywhere. Bold and aromatic, spicy without being aggressive, creamy without burying the meat underneath it. It complements the steak rather than competing with it, which is exactly what a sauce should do and frequently does not.

The rest of the sides, from potatoes through to vegetables, are consistently well seasoned and cooked with attention. Nothing arrives lukewarm or reheated.

The Wine List

The wine list is another reason I keep returning. It is not long simply to look impressive. It has clearly been built by someone who understands what works alongside steak, and the staff are genuinely capable on pairing rather than reciting a script.

Whether you want something bold to stand up to a ribeye or something more restrained, the range is there. The recommendations I have taken here over the years have improved the meal rather than felt like an upsell.

Service

Service is one of those things you only notice when it fails. Here it is reliably very good. Staff know the menu, understand the differences between cuts and explain them without sounding rehearsed.

What I value most is that it never feels rushed, even on a full night. You are given the time a steakhouse meal deserves. Polished without being stiff, professional without being cold.

How It Compares in Limassol

The closest rival is Beefbar at the Amara, which brings an international brand, a stronger room and a higher bill. Beefbar probably edges it on sheer occasion. Prime edges it on consistency and value, and the sides here are better.

For fine dining in Limassol more broadly, we have also reviewed ORIS at Trilogy and Matsuhisa at the Amara, neither of which we rated as highly. If you want the opposite end of the spectrum entirely, our guide to the best meat taverns in Cyprus covers grilled meat in the traditional Cypriot style, which is a completely different and equally worthwhile experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to enter the casino to reach the restaurant?

No. Prime operates as a restaurant in its own right within the City of Dreams Mediterranean resort and you do not need to be gambling or staying there to book a table.

Is Prime Steakhouse expensive?

It sits in the high end bracket, though generally below Beefbar for a comparable meal. You are paying for consistency and genuinely good sides rather than for a brand name.

What should I order?

The buffalo steak if it is available. Otherwise any of the prime cuts, with the sauteed mushrooms and the Sarawak pepper sauce. That combination has never let me down.

Do you need to book?

Yes, particularly at weekends and through the summer season.

Final Thoughts

Prime Steakhouse is not only one of the better steak restaurants in Limassol, it is one of the most dependable high end dining rooms anywhere in Cyprus. That word, dependable, is doing a lot of work, because plenty of restaurants here can produce one excellent evening and very few can produce twenty.

If you take steak seriously, appreciate sides that have been thought about, care about wine and want somewhere refined without pretension, this is worth returning to. I will keep going back, still hoping to find the buffalo steak back where it belongs.
